Mr Robinson’s Weekly Letter | Spring Term | End of Week 7

Posted: 10th March 2025

28th February 2025

Dear Greenfield Families,

We have leapt back into the second half of term with springs in our steps and sun in our eyes. At last.

Over the week there have been a number of interesting and exciting events across the school, not least those involving parents: home and away. The International Mother Language morning in Owls and Robins on Tuesday was well attended with Spanish, Swedish, Ukrainian and Russian being introduced to the children by willing and much appreciated volunteers. Parents’ evenings took place in real life and on-line and we are grateful for all that engagement.

This week children have played hockey, football and tag rugby fixtures with lots of enjoyment and no little success. The creative arts have been to the fore this week: House music recital filled the school with tunes and harmonies … and quite a lot of volume!; we were well represented at the Creative Arts workshop held at Frensham Heights school. Building on our work in the community, we held today a Dance collaboration with St Dunstan’s School. I am ever impressed by the children’s expression and confidence when performing. I expect some more brilliance in the Greenfield’s Got Talent showcase, which Mr Gudgeon introduced to the children today, and which takes place towards the end of the term.

The year 6s are walking around with wide smiles as they continue their rehearsals for Mary Poppins, preparing for Dragon’s Den and knowing that they all have options for Senior schools next year. We are very proud of their efforts in the classroom and beyond, and look forward to sharing their impressive results with the wider community next week.

Next week will see 3M’s form assembly, PSHE workshops for all the children (except the Fledglings), the House music winners’ Recital, Yr 6 Dragons’ Den presentations, football, tag rugby, hockey, climbing and dodgeball matches, a cross country event in Witley, the Biggest Ever Football Session … and the gloriousness that is Thursday’s World Book Day. On Friday evening is the next Smartphone Free Childhood meeting … and the Woking half marathon (or, as we call it, Ava’s Fun run) approaches speedily – I hope to see many of you at both.

My Board/puzzle game of the week is the taxing Genius Square, which challenges one’s spatial appreciation. Tactile, colourful and really good for little tinies to learn trial and error; it’s also really good for older people to help decide who washes up.

But as the weather is set fair this weekend, though chilly, I hope that you will get some joyous outside Vitamin D enriching time. Sunglasses on!

Yours,

M. W. Robinson – Head
